I printed these plates on top of each other just for fun and I like the way it came out. The map (the blue plate) is a ghost image, but I kind of wish it could be even ghost-ier to make the other plate stand out a little more.

The bird print is an old plate I had that didn't come out very well. So I cut it up and added some birds. They are inspired by BridBird's stuff, but not nearly as cool.

These will be printed on top of each other. The top print is going to be the background and the bottom image will be printed on top. This is just a picture of the stencil I made spray painted onto the plate. I have already etched it and made some changes (filled in some blank areas). I plan on using some yellows and oranges for the key plate but that could change depending on how it looks. I have also been working on another print with birds and some watercolors. I will post those when I get some pictures.

Went camping this weekend at South Toledo Bend in Anacoco, LA. After days of eating potato chips with ranch, hot dogs, smores, and nachos, we finished off the weekend at Lea's Lunchroom in Lecompte. It was amazing (not that it even needs to be said...).

This one was inspired by a quote by Lord Byron "I love not man the less but nature more." It was done using the dry point technique which means I hand drew every line directly on the plate with an etching needle and without using any acid. I really love dry point, but my hand always takes quite a beating. It was sore for days after this. I like the roll marks left by the brayer, but if I were going to do it over I would use a different pattern instead of the cactus at the top. I would probably choose a more transparent color for the red as well. My first color edition...yay!

This one is called Baton Noir. I tried to use a water tuche for the texture, but it didn't work out too well (we were having acid issues that day), so I used aquatint instead. I also did a monoprint of my yellow thumb print. I like the monoprint technique (where you "paint" on the plate and run it through the press). The thumb print is roughly where LSU would be located if the map was accurate (it's not). Even though it's finished, I still can't decide if it looks kind of dark and dooming. Is the darkness closing in or the white spreading out? Some speculate that its my sub-conscious Gustav... See the preliminary works for this plate here and here.

I made these little "trees" for Christmas decorations. I stole the idea from last year's decorations at Anthropologie. I made most of them from canvas, but some of them are from an old sheet or something and one is done with microsuede. A few of them have stitching or ribbon detail. I started to fill them with poly-whatever from an old pillow I ripped open, but they were too lumpy so my mom ordered me the hugest box ever of bean bag filling. They are like little foam pellets. And I weighted the bottoms down with a little handful of gravel so they don't fall over. I thought they were really cool at first, but now I am kind of over it. Now I have to think of something to do with that giant bag of bean bag filler.

As I have mentioned, one of my current projects right now is to update/improve the Legacy magazine's website. I have zero experience with web design, but after a week of poking around and experimenting, I managed to figure out to change what is currently there. As far as revamping the format...not a clue. But I am so proud of myself for coming even this far as to update the text. Yay!

i attended a lecture by garth johnson today. so cool. check out his website. i am going to go knit some booties for mike the tiger now. or paint my car with a wood grain texture.

i am teaching myself dreamweaver and html and after several days managed to get a sentence on the legacy website. it is so ridiculously out dated and at the rate i am going, it will always be. we got a print proof in this week and i am so excited. it comes out on october 10...i will definitely post pics...possibly the whole thing? probably not.

p.s. busy week going on. a lot of homework but tomorrow is throw down thursday and the weekend holds promises of gavin degraw, fall fest (can we say free sausage dogs?), and lsu football. what more could one ask for?
